TOC’s debut album, Time to Go (June 2015), was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer John Keane (R.E.M., Widespread Panic) and garnered national attention from Relix Magazine which praised a “confident and polished debut album.” Shortly after, the band won the 2016 Flagpole Athens Music Award for best “Jam/Funk” band and joined the Home Grown Music Network whose roster includes Lotus, The Motet, Dangermuffin and Big Something.
March 2017 saw the release of Point of Reference, which was recorded in Athens, Ga. and produced by Drew Vandenberg (of Montreal, Kishi Bashi, Futurebirds). The sophomore effort displays striking maturity in songwriting and embraces more risk-taking in the studio— fueled by Vandenberg’s experimental leanings. Although TOC has been labeled a jam band in the past, this LP demonstrates an urge to break genre restrictions as it draws inspiration from 70’s AOR and contemporaries like My Morning Jacket. Nearly one year after its release, Point of Reference earned the band a second feature in Relix Magazine through its notably “lush soundscapes and clear, purposeful compositions.” The Orange Constant thrives on creating songs that differ from one another and possess their own inspired character. The band shares bills with nationally and internationally touring acts such as Perpetual Groove, TAUK, Atlas Road Crew, Ripe and CBDB. The group is: Andrew Brantley (guitar/vocals), Nickalous Benson (guitar/vocals), Tyler Walker (bass/vocals), Chris Freiberg (keyboards) and Sam Groveman (drums).
“Eclectic rock n’ roll, everything from blissful southern rock and indie jams to urban funk.” – Grant Purvis (Point of Reference review)
“The Orange Constant’s confident and polished debut album Time to Go is laden with connective riffs and melodious charm. Much of the album evokes a 70’s FM AOR vibe, without appearing self conscious” – Larson Sutton, Relix Magazine
“They have hit a home run on their first trip to the plate. From the first strains of “Emily” all the way through to the jammed-out coda to “Ask Me to Jump,” Time to Go is a pure delight. You will hear influences throughout the disk, but this is fresh and exciting.” – Scott Hopkins, Music Fest News
AFTM finds its roots in classic southern rock while experimenting with sounds from blues, funk, and psychedelia to create something that is truly unique. As a six piece group, the band produces energetic live performances that rouses all types of crowds with their musical creativity, cohesion as a group, and fun atmosphere.
Currently, the band is performing at venues around Athens, Atlanta, and other cities across the southeast, and has released three original songs, with more on the way. AFTM has a passionate following that is expanding by the day and with every show.
