Terrapin Beer Co. raises money to rebuild a hometown landmark with "Terrapin’s Georgia Theatre Sessions," a limited-edition series of four beers.

Golden Ticket

Athens, Ga. - Terrapin Beer Co. is releasing a new series of beers that will be available only in Georgia. Funds generated from the series, “Terrapin's Georgia Theater Sessions,” will go to aid in the rebuilding of the historic Georgia Theatre. The Athens landmark was destroyed by fire last summer. To sweeten the pot, each of the four releases will have a decidedly Wonka bonus. Each 22-oz. bottle will be in a sealed box, and one box of each release will contain a Golden Ticket. The Golden ticket will be a lifetime pass to the rebuilt Georgia Theatre.

Each release in the series will highlight a different era in the history of the building:

Brew 1 – March – "The Iron Tankard" Old Stock Ale – The building started as a YMCA in 1889 and had a huge iron swimming pool in the basement.

Brew 2 – June – "Double Feature" Belgian Dubbel – Later the building became a movie theatre.

Brew 3 – September – "Sound Czech" Czech Pilsner – Highlighting the wonderful days of the Georgia Theatre’s music career

Brew 4 – December – "Hoptaneous Combustion" Imperial IPA – Inspired by the tragic fire and a look into the future.

Terrapin has been working with the management of the Georgia Theater since the fire to develop a fundraising effort.

"Athens is a small community and we all stick together... it's natural that we would be here to help in the reconstruction of the Theatre," said Terrapin co-owner and brewmaster Brian "Spike" Buckowski.

"Plans for these beers really began the day of the fire," said John Cochran, co-owner of Terrapin. "We wanted to make a focused and significant contribution. We wanted to help in a way that only Terrapin could."

With each new release in the series, there will also be a benefit party in Athens. Distribution will be limited to about 500 cases of each beer in the series and only one Golden Ticket per release! There is no purchase necessary to acquire a Golden Ticket. If you are unable or unwilling to purchase one of the specialty beers, you may send a handwritten letter to:
